Castilla Y León

Castilla y León is Spain's largest wine-producing region by area, an immense high-altitude plateau of the country's northwestern interior. It contains some of Spain's most prestigious denominations — Ribera del Duero, Toro, Rueda, Bierzo and Cigales — each with distinct identity. Tempranillo dominates the reds (the broader plateau yields some of Spain's most powerful versions of the grape); Verdejo in Rueda has become Spain's white-wine star; and Bierzo's Mencía produces aromatic, fresh, atlantic-influenced reds in the region's far west. Altitude, continental climate and limestone-heavy soils define the wines.
