Rui Roboredo Madeira

About this producer

Rui Roboredo Madeira is one of Portugal's most influential winemakers, whose wines reflect his passion for wine, experiences, nature and the land. Born in one of the most remote areas of the Iberian Peninsula, between the Douro Superior and Beira Alta regions, he developed a family passion for wines that is reflected in every bottle produced on his properties. The producer is a pioneer in innovative concepts such as High-Altitude Wines through the Beyra project, developed in Vermiosa among Portugal's highest vineyards. His signature is behind iconic brands such as Castello d'Alba (a benchmark in the Upper Douro), Quinta da Pedra Escrita (guard wines from the Douro), and Beyra (high altitude wines), each representing different terroirs and winemaking philosophies. Quinta da Pedra Escrita, a family property for more than eight generations, was rehabilitated in 2007 with the goal of reviving the concept of Douro wines for aging. Located on very sandy, poor granite soils at high altitude, it produces wines of extraordinary longevity and complexity. Rui Roboredo Madeira wines stand out for their sustainable viticulture, with dry-farmed vineyards and an extensive offering of organic wines. Production extends across several quintas including Quinta do Côa, Quinta de Fafide and Quinta da Cassa, each contributing unique characteristics to the diversified portfolio. Based in São João da Pesqueira, in the heart of the Douro, and with vineyards in Beira Interior, Rui Roboredo Madeira represents the excellence of modern Portuguese winemaking, combining family tradition with technical innovation and respect for nature.
