Gouveio

About this grape variety

An important Douro and Trás-os-Montes white grape (called Verdelho de Trás-os-Montes locally, and Godello in Galicia), Gouveio yields rich, structured whites with ripe pear and citrus aromatics and a creamy, lightly waxy palate. Blended with Rabigato and Viosinho in traditional Douro whites, it provides body and texture. Old-vine Gouveio from Douro estates increasingly stands on its own as serious, age-worthy varietal white. Same grape as the Bierzo and Valdeorras star Godello.
