This Cardeal Reserva, hailing from the Dão, is a rather emphatic statement. The deep ruby colour hints at a burst of ripe wild berries – think blackberries and raspberries – underpinned by a beautiful plum compote sweetness. It certainly isn’t shy; those firm tannins promise a remarkable evolution in the bottle, truly deserving of ageing. Wonderful with grilled beef and roasted potatoes, I’d say.
