This Claustrus from Adega de Mesão is a genuinely intriguing wine. Initially, you’re hit with notes of blackcurrant and wonderfully ripe plum, all framed by a vibrant violet hue – a clear indication of the intensity to come. The dark fruits are luxuriously soft, laced with subtle spice, beautifully balanced by a refreshing acidity and tannins that have clearly benefited from time on the vine, likely thanks to the Touriga Nacional and Aragonez. It finishes impeccably clean and balanced – perfect with a grilled fish, I’d say.
