The history of Favaios is lost to time. Its name comes from “Flávius”, an ancient Roman settlement that belonged to the land of Panoías, and its development has followed successive dynasties. Since 1952, in this village in the Demarcated Region of Douro, the Cooperative Winery of Favaios has become one of the country’s largest and most recognised, especially for the unmistakable quality of its Aperitivo and Moscatel de Favaios. Wine has played a huge role in the village’s growth, shaping both the local economy and its architecture. Responding to rising market demands and the inherent limitations of a 1952‑era facility, the cooperative invested in modernising and revitalising its infrastructure, now boasting over 550 members.
