This Quinta do Convento is clearly a wine that’s been spoiled – a gorgeous deep ruby colour and a lingering perfume of violet and wild berries suggest a wonderfully sunny youth. The cold maceration, just three days mind you, certainly adds to that delicate character. Vinified in stainless steel vats with a brief maturation in new and second-fill French oak barrels, it’s remarkably well-balanced, boasting fine tannins and vibrant acidity. And, of course, with a respectable 89 points from Robert Parker, it’s not just balanced, but a truly refined tasting experience – perfect with a hearty roast.
