Soalheiro All beginnings have a story, and the origin of Soalheiro remains uncertain. It was once the name of an agricultural plot prized for its generous sun exposure, where in 1974 the first continuous Alvarinho vineyard was planted in Melgaço. Forty years ago, on 20‑3‑82, the first Melgaço Alvarinho label, Soalheiro, was born. The Soalheiro 40‑Year Special white wine collection celebrates the territory’s diversity and respects the unique characteristics of each harvest. It consists of two lot wines, each representing a different vintage – 2015 L 15 (a cool year) and 2018 L 18 (a warm year) – plus two blends created by us: 2015 L1518, mainly from the 2015 crop (cool), 15 % of the 2018 (warm) harvest and a cellar secret; and 2018 L1815, with the inverse percentages. It’s an enological experiment we recommend trying in blind tastings and with your own pairings. The labels of these four wines pay homage to the original bottle, recreated to carry the founder’s name, João António Cerdeira. It includes a special Soalheiro corkscrew.
