Sogrape Vinhos was founded in 1942 by Fernando van Zeller Guedes with the ambition of introducing Portuguese wines to the world and a long‑term vision rooted in the quality of the wines it sells, the importance of brand innovation, and the presentation of its products. Today, led by the third generation of the founding family, Sogrape Vinhos increasingly fulfills the objective it set at its inception: to be a family‑run, internationally oriented company focused on producing quality wines, fostering innovation, and developing Portuguese brands of global standing. The company owns roughly 830 hectares of vineyards across Portugal. Vila Regia is a designation given to settlements that were historically founded by a king. In Portugal there are numerous such towns, referenced in charters (cartas de foral) or royal letters that outlined the privileges, rights, and obligations of the land and its people. Drawing on this rich heritage, Sogrape Vinhos began producing Vila Regia wines in 1989 at its Vila Real winery, thereby adding to its range of regional table wines. (Illustrative image only)
