Rufete

About this grape variety

A native red grape of the Beira Interior and Douro Superior, Rufete produces light- to medium-bodied wines of fragrant red fruit, fresh acidity and gentle tannin. Long considered a humble blending grape, it has been reclaimed by modern Beira Interior producers as a vehicle for transparent, terroir-driven reds — particularly from old vines at altitude. In Douro it plays a quieter supporting role. Drink young or with a few years in bottle for the most expressive results.
