Touriga Nacional

About this grape variety

Portugal's most prestigious red grape and the cornerstone of both fortified Port and the great Douro and Dão dry reds. Touriga Nacional yields wines of deep colour, intense floral and dark-fruit aromatics (violets, blackberry, bergamot), firm structure and remarkable ageing potential. It thrives on Douro schist and Dão granite at altitude, and is increasingly planted across the country and abroad. Long considered Portugal's noblest variety, its hallmark combination of perfume, power and freshness has no exact equivalent elsewhere.
