Chardonnay

About this grape variety

The world's most planted and most travelled white grape, Chardonnay is the variety behind white Burgundy (Côte de Beaune Premier and Grand Crus), Chablis, Champagne (as one of three blending grapes) and countless New World expressions. Naturally a neutral grape, Chardonnay takes on the character of its site and its winemaking — Chablis is steely and mineral, Meursault rich and nutty, oaked Napa buttery and tropical. Best at home in cool-to-moderate climates on limestone soils, but adaptable almost anywhere.
